Helix® Micro Rebar™ reinforcement was used to fully replace all rebar, supporting significant loads and repeat heavy traffic including 80,000 lb wheel loaders.
The Helix Difference
1 layer of #5 rebar @ 12” OCEW
The Sun Recycling Center is located in Pompano Beach, Florida and is approx 500,000 sq. ft. As a scrap metal processing facility, the slab on grade endures a tremendous amount of traffic, loads and heavy machinery.
The initial design for this industrial slab on grade was 6 1/2″ thick concrete, reinforced with 1 layer of #5 rebar at 12″ OCEW. Using the Helix Steel design method, the concrete contractor was able to replace all of the rebar, while increasing the durability and resilience of the slab on grade.
Since 2012, the Helix® Micro Rebar™ reinforced concrete has supported significant loads and repeat heavy traffic including 80,000 lb wheel loaders.
