Is it really as revolutionary as the marketing says it is? Let’s take a look at some key features when compared to mesh, and perhaps you too will be considering the alternative soon.

When fully loaded transport trucks pull up to your loading bay with their full weight of 80,000 lbs, you have to be sure that the concrete beneath their wheels has what it takes to withstand the forces.
Warehouses and fulfillment centers require heavy-duty concrete slabs for their parking lots – more than your standard four inches with rebar.
Enter Helix Micro Rebar. Our engineered reinforcement can take anything that your trucks can throw at it. It replaces most of the rebar and will save you time, money and make the entire process easier than ever before.
If you’re unfamiliar with Helix Micro Rebar, you can read much more about it here. And if you’re ready to dig into Helix Steel’s high-performance slab-on-grade favorites, keep reading!

A Warehouse Project That Cut Over 40 Days From Its Schedule
Dynarex Warehouse – Middletown, New York

Needing to optimize both time and materials, Dynarex Corporation partnered with BH Concrete and Helix Steel to construct a new warehouse in Middletown, New York.
The original design specified heavily reinforced concrete elements, including a 10″ slab with #3 rebar at 12″, and a 12″ foundation wall with double layers of #5 at 12″. This would have taken weeks to install and cost significantly in extra weight.
With the support of Helix Steel’s own in-house engineers, the project team redesigned much of the concrete using Helix Micro Rebar, a high-performance concrete reinforcement to increase concrete durability and streamline installation.
The result was that slab thickness was reduced and rebar layers were either significantly reduced or completely replaced. Notably, the 10″ slab was redesigned as an 8.5″ slab with 13.5 lbs/yd³ of Helix, and the 12″ foundation and retaining walls were reinforced using 27 lbs/yd³ of Helix, fully replacing the horizontal rebar and partially replacing the vertical reinforcement.
These changes also eliminated over 290 tons of traditional steel and shaved more than 40 days off the construction timeline, dramatically improving efficiency without sacrificing performance. The Missouri Department of Transportation sought a long-term, innovative solution based on scientific facts.

117% Increase in Concrete Shear Strength With Helix Micro Rebar
Park Avenue Warehouse – Laredo, Texas
Read the Complete Project Profile
Park Avenue Construction partnered with Allied Properties to build a 300,000-square-foot warehouse in Laredo, Texas. Using experience from other projects, Helix Micro Rebar was chosen to increase construction efficiency and enhance slab durability across both parking and heavy-use areas.
Helix Micro Rebar was used in two ways: 9 lb/yd³ for standard parking zones and 13.5 lb/yd³ in the drive aisles, where truck traffic and turning loads would be more intense. This engineered approach helped optimize the slab for site-specific conditions while minimizing the need for traditional rebar reinforcement. The result was a streamlined construction process and a concrete solution built for long-term performance.

Innovative EV Manufacturer Relies on the Science Behind Helix Micro Rebar
Faraday Future – Hanford, California
Read the Complete Project Profile
Faraday Future required a new production facility in Hanford, California—positioned strategically between Los Angeles and Silicon Valley—to fast-track operations.
To support the facility’s demanding EV manufacturing needs, Commercial Contracting Corporation was brought in to construct high-performance concrete slabs designed to handle heavy equipment and constant industrial activity.
The original slab design called for two layers of #5 rebar spaced at 12 inches within a 12″ thick slab. However, by partnering with Helix Steel, the team reengineered the floor system using Helix Micro Rebar at a dosage of 27 lbs/yd³. This choice eliminated the need for traditional rebar while delivering superior durability, crack resistance, and construction efficiency. The result was a slab built to support heavy loads, resist long-term wear and expedite the project timeline.

Concrete Slabs Built for Trucks in Florida
Sun Recycling Facility – Pompano Beach, Florida
Read the Complete Project Profile
The Sun Recycling Center in Pompano Beach, Florida, is a high-intensity scrap metal processing facility that spans approximately 500,000 square feet. With a constant stream of heavy machinery—including 80,000 lb wheel loaders—its slab-on-grade is exceptionally strong, durable, and long-lasting to support extreme loads and traffic patterns common to industrial environments. Thanks to Helix Micro Rebar.
The original concrete design specified a 6.5″ thick slab reinforced with one layer of #5 rebar at 12″ on center each way. Ahrens Companies, the contractor on the project, partnered with Helix Steel to re-engineer the slab using Helix Micro Rebar at a dosage of 22.5 lbs/yd³. This eliminated the need for traditional rebar while improving the slab’s crack resistance and long-term performance under intense operational stress.
Since 2012, the slab has withstood daily pounding from heavy equipment and high-volume use!.
